SUMMARY:SpIFF Presents Oyate Woyaka
DESCRIPTION:The Spokane International Film Festival and Red Nation International Film Festival invite you to a special screening of Oyate Woyaka (the People Speak) on Friday November 22 at The Magic Lantern Theatre in Spokane.  The program begins with short films from The Red Nation International Film Festival at 6pm.  Oyate Woyaka screens at 7:30pm.  Admission is $10. Proceeds benefit the Salish School of Spokane.   \n\n\n\nOyate Woyaka (The People Speak) is a documentary film that follows traditional Lakota elders and fluent speakers as they work with younger generations to restore their beautiful language and culture while processing and healing from intergenerational trauma. This powerful\, visually told story will offer a window into this culture\, the United States history that attempted to destroy the language and the efforts being made to preserve the ancestral Lakota language. \n\n\n\nDirectors: Bryant High Horse\, Jr.\, and George McAuliffe \n\n\n\nFilm Website: https://www.rednationff.com/oyate-woyaka-the-people-speak/ \n\n\n\nLocation: The Magic Lantern Theatre\, 25 W. SUMMARY:The Root Experience
DESCRIPTION:The Root Experience is a 2-night festival centering BIPOC talent from various cultures and artistic disciplines. \n\n\n\nOur festival features BIPOC creatives at the center of art\, music\, and film. The Root Experience celebrates regional filmmakers\, artists\, dancers\, culture bearers\, musicians\, and the intergenerational stories they weave through their art. The goal is to uplift their narratives of culture\, family\, beauty\, and resilience to create a network that empowers living stories and heals elements of the past. \n\n\n\nSchedule: https://www.therootexperience.org/schedule-2023

SUMMARY:Washington Filmworks Filmmaker Roundtables
DESCRIPTION:Save The Date for Community Conversations about Small Budget Production Program! \n\n\n\nWe kick off our statewide tour this month with a stop in Spokane on Wednesday\, July 7\, 2022). \n\n\n\nThe landmark bill that passed during the 2022 legislative session allows Washington Filmworks to allocate up to $3M a year to better support emerging Washington filmmakers making projects under $1M. Our team has been working with filmmakers Lacey Leavitt and Netsanet Tjirongo on designing the new program and we are hitting the road to talk to filmmakers in communities across the state to get feedback and insight about how we can make this new program the best it can be! \n\n\n\nThis program is all about supporting YOU and YOUR WORK\, so please join us for these very important conversations so that we design a program that helps make your dream project a reality.  \n\n\n\nAND – if you don’t live in or near one of these locations\, DON’T WORRY! We will give everyone a chance to participate in the process virtually as well! \n\n\n\nDon’t know much about Washington Filmworks Small Budget Production initiative? Check out this debut episode of In Development where Executive Director Amy Lillard talks with Lacey Leavitt and Netsana Tjirongo – our co-conspirators on this project — about the new program designed to better support Washington filmmakers making projects under $1M.

SUMMARY:Union Film Crew Work: No More Mysteries
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to dispel some of the myths and mysteries of working on a union film crew. IATSE Local 488 is the union that covers most film crew members of the Pacific Northwest. In this hour-long event\, 488 VP Rebecca Cook will be discussing some common questions and misconceptions about union film work\, including how to join the union\, what it means to be a union member\, and if union work is even right for you. We’ll talk about why and how shows go union. We’ll also give green filmmakers some basics on moving into professional film set work. We hope to answer any questions participants have about professional film crew work that they may have been afraid to ask. It’s a great talk for students and new filmmakers or anyone wanting to understand where unions fit into our industry work. \n\n\n\nThis presentation is FREE and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Jewish Cultural Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Spokane Area Jewish Family Services is pleased to present our 18th annual Spokane Jewish Cultural Film Festival! Since 2005\, JFS has brought international films to Spokane that share Jewish life and culture with the community. Our upcoming festival\, however\, will be unprecedented: We’re going hybrid!  \n\n\n\nThe festival will take place Feb. 17-27\, 2022\, and will be presented in a “hybrid” format\, provided COVID-19 conditions at the time allow for it. This means opening and closing screenings in person (with precautions in place) at Wolff Auditorium (in Gonzaga University’s Jepson Center) as well as virtual access to all films and numerous programs (such as filmmaker Q&As). It is worth noting that most films in the festival are geoblocked (geographically restricted)\, as required by the distributors\, to the Greater Spokane Area (Spokane-Coeur d’Alene metro\, Stevens County\, the Palouse). If you are unsure about whether your location falls within the GSA\, please don’t hesitate to ask. We can make a limited number of geoblocking exceptions\, on most films\, for family members of GSA residents whose live elsewhere. And the screening package that includes American Birthright and A Jew Walks Into a Bar is not currently geoblocked.

SUMMARY:Connecting in Chaos
