SUMMARY:Washington Filmworks Filmmaker Roundtables
DESCRIPTION:Save The Date for Community Conversations about Small Budget Production Program! \n\n\n\nWe kick off our statewide tour this month with a stop in Spokane on Wednesday\, July 7\, 2022). \n\n\n\nThe landmark bill that passed during the 2022 legislative session allows Washington Filmworks to allocate up to $3M a year to better support emerging Washington filmmakers making projects under $1M. Our team has been working with filmmakers Lacey Leavitt and Netsanet Tjirongo on designing the new program and we are hitting the road to talk to filmmakers in communities across the state to get feedback and insight about how we can make this new program the best it can be! \n\n\n\nThis program is all about supporting YOU and YOUR WORK\, so please join us for these very important conversations so that we design a program that helps make your dream project a reality.  \n\n\n\nAND – if you don’t live in or near one of these locations\, DON’T WORRY! We will give everyone a chance to participate in the process virtually as well! \n\n\n\nDon’t know much about Washington Filmworks Small Budget Production initiative? Check out this debut episode of In Development where Executive Director Amy Lillard talks with Lacey Leavitt and Netsana Tjirongo – our co-conspirators on this project — about the new program designed to better support Washington filmmakers making projects under $1M.

SUMMARY:Union Film Crew Work: No More Mysteries
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to dispel some of the myths and mysteries of working on a union film crew. IATSE Local 488 is the union that covers most film crew members of the Pacific Northwest. In this hour-long event\, 488 VP Rebecca Cook will be discussing some common questions and misconceptions about union film work\, including how to join the union\, what it means to be a union member\, and if union work is even right for you. We’ll talk about why and how shows go union. We’ll also give green filmmakers some basics on moving into professional film set work. We hope to answer any questions participants have about professional film crew work that they may have been afraid to ask. It’s a great talk for students and new filmmakers or anyone wanting to understand where unions fit into our industry work. \n\n\n\nThis presentation is FREE and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Jewish Cultural Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Spokane Area Jewish Family Services is pleased to present our 18th annual Spokane Jewish Cultural Film Festival! Since 2005\, JFS has brought international films to Spokane that share Jewish life and culture with the community. Our upcoming festival\, however\, will be unprecedented: We’re going hybrid!  \n\n\n\nThe festival will take place Feb. 17-27\, 2022\, and will be presented in a “hybrid” format\, provided COVID-19 conditions at the time allow for it. This means opening and closing screenings in person (with precautions in place) at Wolff Auditorium (in Gonzaga University’s Jepson Center) as well as virtual access to all films and numerous programs (such as filmmaker Q&As). It is worth noting that most films in the festival are geoblocked (geographically restricted)\, as required by the distributors\, to the Greater Spokane Area (Spokane-Coeur d’Alene metro\, Stevens County\, the Palouse). If you are unsure about whether your location falls within the GSA\, please don’t hesitate to ask. We can make a limited number of geoblocking exceptions\, on most films\, for family members of GSA residents whose live elsewhere. And the screening package that includes American Birthright and A Jew Walks Into a Bar is not currently geoblocked.

DESCRIPTION:From the 206 to the 509! \n\n\n\nA free event celebrating Black filmmakers and storytellers with a special screening of short films that were part of Seattle Black Film Festival 2021. Stick around afterward to chat with the SBFF team and learn more about the Seattle Black Film Festival! Doors at 6 pm\, program at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\nAbout SBFF: \n\n\n\nEstablished in 2003 by Artistic Director Jacqueline Moscou\, the first Langston Hughes African American Film Festival was a production of the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center\, later known as the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute(LPHAI). From the start\, the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival (LHAAFF) sought to give audiences access to underrepresented perspectives and emerging filmmakers from across the African diaspora. Curator Zola Mumford researched and programmed films from many different countries and genres and invited Karen Toering\, a media producer and a leader in nonprofit arts and funding organizations\, to join the festival in 2004. With Toering as Program Director\, the LHAAFF grew from three days of films and discussions to nine.
