Biography

Jeannie is a professional costume designer, author, and educator. She has an MFA in Costume Design and has been a freelance costume designer and stylist for thirty years. Credits from theatres nationwide include productions for the San Diego Repertory Theatre, Diversionary Theatre (where she won a Patte award for Best Costume Design), The Guthrie Lab, Crossroads Theater, Ion Theatre, Mixed Blood Theatre, Moxie Theatre, Youth Theatre Northwest, Park Square Theatre, and Shakespeare in the Park to name a few. She was an invited guest speaker at The Costume Colloquium in Florence, Italy and she was the costume design assistant for the multiple Tony award winning show “Memphis” with Tony award winning costume designer Paul Tazewell. In addition to freelance designing, she has taught at Western Illinois University, The Art Institute, University of San Diego, San Diego State University, University of California Irvine, The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, City College, and Palomar College. Jeannie has also worked with the Costume Design graduate program at The University of California San Diego as an advisor and mentor. She has worked for many years at The La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, CA on numerous Broadway tours as a design assistant, an assistant shop manager, and a lead costume crafts artisan. She has authored a chapter in the book Theatre Artisans and Their Craft, by Routledge Publishing and is currently under contract with Routledge to write a full book on designing for diverse body types.
A few career highlights include creating the hats for the film Drop Dead Gorgeous, working on costumes for the band Slipknot, and creating a prom dress in a few hours on the reality show America’s Prom Queen.
