Spokane Jewish Cultural Film Festival 2019 Night 3

January 27, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm PST

$7 – $10

Shoelaces

Not rated; some mild innuendo, In Hebrew (English subtitles) – 102 mins.

Nominated for 8 Ophir Awards (Israeli Film Academy Awards)

Shoelaces tells the story of a complicated relationship between an aging father and his special-needs son, whom he abandoned while he was still a young boy. Reuven’s kidneys are failing and his son, Gadi, wants to donate one of his own to help save his father’s life. However, the transplant committee objects to the procedure, claiming that Reuven, as Gadi’s sole legal guardian, does not have the right to authorize such an invasive procedure. Through the film’s portrayal of love, rejection, and co-dependency, it sheds light on the importance of human life and human connection.
