Ira is the lead faculty for the Photography and Digital Media Production degrees at Spokane Falls Community College.
Ira has worked full time as a photographer since 1989 and was nationally certified as a commercial photographer by the Professional Photographers of America in 1995. He has taught still photography, digital media production, and documentary filmmaking at Spokane Falls Community College since 1997.
As a filmmaker and community activist he help launched the Reel Spokane film festival and has had his documentary films screened at the juried Spokane International Film Festival and his work is now part of the official Vimeo Photography channel.
Ira has also served on the board of directors for the Professional Photographers of Washington and is currently Chair of the Northwest Region of the Society for Photographic Education.
Ira majored in Communication Studies and Journalism at Eastern Washington University and has completed graduate coursework in fine art, media theory, and filmmaking at Vermont College and The New School University in New York.
His personal work emphasizes memory and storytelling whether it is in words, photographs, or cinematography.
