Biography

Jimmy Matlosz is a critically acclaimed, world renowned Cinematographer, who has an organic style all his own and a great reputation for his onset demeanor, collaborative working style and artistry. He has shot hundreds of commercials with an incredibly broad variety of styles for clients such as Nike, United Airlines, Sprint, Chevy, Ford, Adidas, New Balance, Budweiser, Miller, McDonald’s and Burger King. Jimmy has the distinction of being comfortable and skilled in many facets of cinematography, from comedy and dialogue spots, to sports, VFX and even tabletop.
In 2019 Jimmy was tapped to shoot the feature film F.E.A.R., his second foray into narrative features. Additionally he lensed the first ever IMAX student film, ‘The Princess and The Pea’ and the IMAX film ‘Manatee, the Forgotten Mermaid’. He has shot several short films, and music videos as well as numerous documentaries including ‘Who Killed The Electric Car?’ and ‘Better Living Through Circuitry’.
Jimmy may have the unique distinction of earning awards in both High Speed and Stop Motion cinematography, winning a Pro-Max Award for VH1 Rock Honors The Who and more recently an award for a 60 second spot for Wines of Chile. Jimmy garnered 3 cinematography awards for his ground breaking Cinematography on the film ‘Oedipus’, which premiered at Sundance. This earned him the opportunity to lens the stop motion sequence ‘Robbed a Stoner Blind’ for ‘My Name is Earl’ and another groundbreaking project in stop motion for Dolby Labs, titled ‘Escape’ .
Jimmy has been the Chairman of The Emerging Cinematographers Awards for the past 13 years, which enables him to mentor emerging cinematographers and is also a published writer for several trade publications. He is a consultant for various disciplines in cinematography for fellow filmmakers, as well as for Arri, Dolby Labs and Panasonic.
Jimmy likes mountain biking, road cycling and snowboarding. He also enjoys the culinary arts, makes his own pepper blend and is currently working on a cookbook of his own concoctions.
