    Biography

    Tia is a former Miss Washington’s Teen 2017, and Miss Spokane’s Teen 2015 and 2017, where she was awarded the “Miss Congeniality Award” for being the friendliest contestant at the local, state, and national levels, which was called the “Spirit of America” award at nationals. Tia received a full ride Act Six scholarship to Gonzaga University, where she double-majored in Sociology and Communication Studies and minored in Solidarity and Social Justice. She was awarded the Presidential Philomathea Award and the 2023 Governor’s Civic Leadership Award for her dedication to service and social justice work. She was selected as a Morris Fellow at Gonzaga University and presented her research on “The Rise in Anti-Asian Hate During COVID-19 & Combating Anti-Asian Racism.” Tia is always looking for ways to engage our communities in reimagining a more just, equitable, and inclusive society. She also enjoys Latin dancing, writing poetry, and listening to NPR podcasts and NPR Tiny Desk Concerts. Tia loves solo traveling and has been to 3 continents and 15 countries so far, with a dream of becoming the first Hmong American to travel to every country in the world.
